The Grave Seasons PAX East demo gave players their first hands-on preview of Ashenridge, showing how peaceful agricultural chores intertwine with procedural murder investigations. Developed by Perfect Garbage and published by Blumhouse Games, the build highlighted core gameplay loops, character conversations, and supernatural forensics.

Playable Build at PAX East Booth 19049

The only public build ever exhibited was the PAX East 2026 booth demo (Booth #19049). Convention attendees could test early gameplay and explore Ashenridge firsthand.

The studio announced that “Grave Seasons will also be released on Day 1 for Xbox Game Pass players”. In an on-site interview, narrative director Emmett Nahil described the project as “our murder mystery farming simulator”. Emmett Nahil explained that the official team tagline for the adventure is “farm, fish, and stop murders”.

Daily Farming Routine and Essential Tools

You play Dara, an escaped convict arriving at the isolated mountainside town of Ashenridge. Emmett Nahil explained that during early exploration, players arrive at a mysterious farm on the mountain slopes of Ashenridge.

Upon moving into the farm, players start carrying a shovel, a pickaxe, an axe, a watering can, and of course, your trusty crowbar. The development post instructed attendees: “Keep your head on a swivel, don’t let those crops wither, and make sure you keep your crowbar clean”. Developers described the daily farming routine as “tilling new plots of land, watering all the plants we can, and poking around Ashenridge”.

Meeting the Townsfolk of Ashenridge

Nahil explained during the event that there are 42 characters total in town. The demo showcased all characters adhering to their own distinct daily schedules.

When discussing townspeople, Emmett Nahil said: “I’m very attached to Hari, our kind of himbo farmhand character”. The cast includes residents such as Leilani and Pilar. Players also interact with Father Tomás as the town priest. In the commercial district, the general store is managed by Yuto as the S-Mart grocery clerk.

Town Structure and Narrative Design

The developer update noted that the town square fountain hosts multiple events throughout the year. In discussing the murder mystery premise, Nahil shared that “there’s multiple potential serial killers”. During the convention conversation, Nahil explained that “you can prevent the murders from becoming murderous”.

Developers shared that “the game has grown so much over the course of its development”. On March 26, 2026, the studio initially posted that “regarding a Steam Demo, we’ve got plans to have one soon!”. However, on June 5, 2026, the developers announced that “we will no longer be releasing a Grave Seasons demo on June 15th” to prioritize the full launch.

Investigative Forensics and the Crowbar

The crowbar enables breaking into homes to discover occult clues and suspect evidence; NPCs react if caught. The developer interview re-affirmed Xbox Game Pass on day one.
