The second developer video in the official overview series delivers important farming and foraging info, revealing how agricultural systems function on the Ashenridge mountainside. From tiered farm plots to wild flora gathering, host Louise Blain and Perfect Garbage detailed the seasonal balance required to survive.

Agricultural Foundations and Move-In Tools

After moving in to Ashenridge, you’ll find yourself carrying a shovel, a pickaxe, an axe, a watering can, and of course, your trusty crowbar. The majority of tools in Grave Seasons are used for farming.

You’ll use your shovel to dig up the land, select seeds from your quick inventory, and plant them. Time must be managed carefully because farming, foraging, and crafting all take time.

Three Soil Plot Types: Arid, Regular, and Wet

Although players cultivate within a controlled space for farming, Ashenridge features three different types of farming plots: Arid, Regular and Wet. On higher ground, players find arid soil at the top of your farm.

The developer update clarifies that arid terrain is a dry, more elevated soil region on the farm, and only certain crops can grow up there. In regular soil, which is most common, you have the maximum space to grow some more common crops.

In wet farm plots, you can plant some unique crops that thrive in the river. The studio post highlights that “as an added bonus, they don’t need to be watered”. Developers also note that “these plots don’t change in size” because “you’re farming on the top of a mountain, so space is limited”.

Seed Seasons, Shopkeeper Daniela, and Crops

There are four seasons in Grave Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. With over 45 seeds available in the game, some can only be purchased, while others can be found while foraging. To buy seeds in town, visit Daniela, who has everything you’re looking for.

Wild Foraging and Herbalist Silvia

You can sell items to net yourself cash in town. Furthermore, foraged items in Grave Seasons are key for recipes, some of which are vital. When discovering mysterious plants in the woods, you’ll want to speak to Silvia, the local herbalist.

Grid Mechanics and Energy Management

When you enter a farming plot, the UI appears to direct you to the possible grids available near you to interact with using your tools. The grid cell will also show as red or white, depending on if the interaction is allowed. Before working, ask yourself: Do you have the right tool equipped? Do you have enough energy? Are you planting seeds in the correct plot types?
